Becoming a Tellington TTouch Practitioner If you are looking for a more gentle and effective way to work with your own animals, or want to work with animals professionally, TTouch may be the answer for you. TTouch involves the use of techniques that will mutually enhance the relationship between people and animals, improve an animal’s health and encourage a better response to training.
Some practitioners work full-time with private clients, many do TTouch part-time in addition to their other jobs, and some incorporate what they have learned into their work with animals in shelters, obedience schools, veterinary clinics and zoos. The rewards of this training program include an inspiring way to relate to animals and a new appreciation and understanding of ourselves. The certification program to become a TTouch Practitioner takes at least two years and requires a considerable investment of time and effort. The program consists of six sessions (three per year) each lasting six days. (Please note: some people take longer than two years to complete the program depending on their schedules.) In Canada we offer combined Foundation Trainings with Ongoing trainings. This means that there are participants at various levels in each training. Those in the Foundation training will spend part of the session separated from the other levels to learn the basics but much of the training is spent integrating the levels. We find that this allows people to see the progression of learning that takes place and the more advanced participants have a chance to practice teaching in a safe, supportive environment. During the two-year training and certification program, you will:
Training Sessions One Through Four: Each session is six days in length and will consist of a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice with a variety of animals. The Tellington TTouch philosophy, body work, tools, and techniques will be covered in depth, lead by our professional staff of Instructors. Some sessions are held at animal shelters that provide a wide variety of animals for you to learn with. The learning objectives of the first four trainings include:
At your second training you will be assigned a mentor who will be available to guide you between training sessions. To enhance your education in this program, you will be asked to work with animals between trainings and to keep a journal of your work. The intent of the first four sessions is to provide you with a firm foundation in the basic skills of the Tellington Method. On successful completion of your first four trainings and the
submission 10 case studies, you will earn your
Practitioner-in-Training Certificate. You are then qualified to: Training Sessions Five and Six: The last two trainings build on the skills and tools you learned in the first year. As you continue working with your classmates, teachers and the animals, you will incorporate new skills and deepen your understanding of the techniques and philosophy. You will also be working with clients and their animals during the trainings so that you can hone your ability to work with individual animals and satisfy the needs of their owners. You will acquire information on how to market yourself and your TTouch skills. Upon successful completion of all six trainings and submission of
an additional five case studies, you will receive a Tellington TTouch
Training Certificate, Practitioner-1. You are then
qualified to: Continuing Education and the Practitioner Guild
After your first four trainings, you will be given a free one-year membership to the Guild as a Practitioner-in-Training. When you have achieved the status of Practitioner, level 1, you have the option of applying for full membership of the Guild. The Guild maintains a directory of Practitioners all over the world. When people ask the TTEAM-TTouch office for a Practitioner near them, referrals are made from the Guild list. Instructors of the Two-Year TTouch Program You will be taught by our team of professional instructors, each of whom have had a minimum 13 years experience with The Tellington TTouch. Robyn Hood, Edie Jane Eaton, Kathy Cascade and Lucie Leclerc are the main trainers. There will also be qualified Practitioners assisting at your trainings so that you can benefit from their experience and have plenty of individual attention as you hone your skills. Occasionally people from related fields such as allopathic and holistic veterinary medicine, acupuncture, homeopathy, naturopathy, animal communication and business consultants will be invited to address the group.
